  • Can you drink the water in Dubai?

  • Can you take a personal item in addition to your carry-on on the plane?

A small pocketbook or small bag for personal items is permitted in addition to your carry-on. As a reminder, your carry-on should not exceed 15 lbs and should not be larger than 22 x 15 x 8 in.

  • Where can currency be exchanged

In Dubai, currency can be exchanged at the airport, hotel, banks, or Currency Exchange counters. Private licensed currency exchange counters are available in all tourist areas, malls, and Metro stations, and generally have a better exchange rate than the airport and hotels.

  • Should you enroll with the STEP program? The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.   • Should tattoos be covered? Having tattoos is perfectly fine and legal.

  • How should I carry prescription medicine? The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health & Prevention requires travelers to apply for a permit if they plan on taking narcotics, controlled and semi-controlled substances to Dubai. Please google UAE Ministry of Health and click the Issue of Permit to Import Medicines for Personal Use link for details if you plan on taking any of these substances. We can not answer questions on the UAE's requirements. It is best to use the chat feature on the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Health & Prevention site and speak with them directly to get your questions answered.
